Local SEO is way more than Google

Targeting highly sought-after keywords can make it harder for you to rank higher in search, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t become an authority on a topic by using different phrases for the same concept. How do you find people who value SEO enough to pay your prices? Before you decide which keywords are right for your brand, spend some time thinking about what your SEO goals are. SEO is the process of implementing strategies and techniques (both on site and off site) in an effort to achieve a higher rank in search results. Typically, the higher a site is in search results, the more visitors it receives. Setting up, planning and executing an SEO campaign might well seem like an insurmountable obstacle.

We're searching in different ways already

Appropriate use of headers are not only helpful to the reader in structuring and breaking up content, but they also let Google know what the key information on that page is and what is most important. Good formatting can instantly improve your page’s readability. This, in turn, can improve your engagement rate. The navigation of a website is important in helping visitors quickly find the content they want. It can also help search engines understand what content the webmaster thinks is important. Don’t forget to tell Google your site is mobile-proof. You can add a viewport declaration – if you’re using responsive design – or a Vary header when using dynamic serving. If a search engine recognizes cloaking it will penalize the website by permanently removing it from the search engine index. The website will no longer appear in search results.

Start with fundamental SEO tactics

When you start reading all about SEO, and all the different opinions out there about it, you might begin to sweat and feel little uncertain. It’s hard to tell exactly how much your company should invest in this line of marketing. You’d like to have a full-blow SEO campaign so you can run with the “big guys,” but you’re concerned that you just can’t afford it or that you simply can’t dedicate the necessary resources to it. Whenever doing a website redesign, I think it’s so important to reassess the purpose of each page. If you don’t learn anything from the page, neither will your viewers! Building out a navigation map that takes SEO into consideration will save you a lot of heartache throughout your project! From its earliest days, Google's core search algorithm offered the most relevant and most organic search results quickly and accurately on a simple site with an iconic logo that has now become synonymous with the search giant's business. Searching amidst the world's vast data, Google cleverly cataloged and categorized pages using its PageRank formula, which assessed the quantity and power of links to any given webpage. Most SEO consults cover a local area. All too often, when we’re brought in for SEO work on a redesign, it’s often late in the process, such as when the site is being coded or even totally complete. “Hey, we should probably have the SEO guy take a look at this before we launch,” but by then, it’s too late. SEO tools are a necessity to any SEO campaign. They can save you time and provide you with valuable insights into your own and your competitor’s websites. Needless to say, learning how to use these tools is extremely important.

Caption everything

We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "A few years ago, a study found that only 4.8% of searchers make it to the second page of search results. Page 3? Only 1.1%. I suppose that’s why they say the best place to hide a dead body is on page two of Google." Think of outreach as a brand awareness campaign for your most authoritative audience. Search engines were nothing new; the first one was Archie created back in 1990, and there had been more than a few created between then & when Google launched (most notably Yahoo!) If the content isn’t right, it’ll be hard to promote it effectively. It’s like creating a product that no one wants to buy. How do you promote something useless? Keep your descriptions under 150 characters to avoid a trail off (…). This shows visitors that you have intentionally put up an informative and helpful description, opposed to the randomly generated one that Google pulls for non-optimised pages.

Making Websites More Visible

The mobile version of your website is equally important, if not more important than the desktop version. Mobile-first, they say. Fact is, that your website probably has as many mobile visitors as it has desktop visitors, of course depending on the type of site you have Facebook and Twitter are two of the highest traffic referral sources for some sites, so be sure that you have profiles and are active regularly on both. People love to know about companies, so share company events, company awards, employee new hires, and most importantly, share information related to your industry that is not related to your company often. No one wants to talk to someone that consistently talks about their-self. Webpages with their target keyword in their URL tend to rank higher in Google than those that didn’t. The rank is the position that your website occupies in the SERPs for particular searches. Your rank is an indicator of how relevant your website is for a search term from the search engine’s perspective, and what authority it has. Write about all those topics that are important to your audience. Use the words you came up with in your keyword research. You need to have content about the topics you want to rank for to start ranking in the search results.

Think about Long Tail Keywords

Know your audience – surveys and your analytics software can help you get a better picture of your typical visitor or client. Consider developing marketing personas, or characters that represent your ideal site visitors and customers. Then think about what kinds of content those personas would be looking for. There was a time when “keyword density” meant something for SEO content. Community hijacking involves finding online communities that are made up of your target market, or people that can reach your target market so that you can build a relationship with them and get them to promote your content/brand/product(s). Paid links are links garnered in exchange for payment. They can come from a network of link buyers and sellers, and a network usually consists of a group of low-quality sites that collectively link to a specific website in an effort to increase it’s authority in SERPs. Other times, there may be a reciprocal linking program, where a group of websites link to one another. If your current website isn’t using HTTPS then you should start scoping out a migration.
